Scam Alert!! If you receive a phone call from anybody trying to raise money for the Griffith Fire Department or offering you a marketing opportunity with the Griffith Fire Department please beware. We have never used nor are we currently using any company to raise funds or provide marketing for us. We always do our own fundraising and will solicit donations in person or by written letter that includes fire department personnel contact information. If you have any questions please contact me at fireprevention@sbcglobal.net. Our Fundraising Efforts Unfortunately, many people don't realize the amount of many it takes to properly equip today's fire department. Being located in Northwest Indiana we are equipped to respond to HAZMat emergencies, confined space entrapment emergencies, high angle rescue, and cold water rescue. Of course, this is all in addition to performing traditional firefighter duties. In order to provide this level of protection we must seek alternative funding. Each year we apply for several private, state, and federal grants. In the event we are lucky enough to receive grant funds, many require a percentage of "matching funds". Without the matching funds we are unable to receive the grant funds. In an effort to keep matching funds on hand, we hold annual fundraisers depositing the funds into the fire department donation account. In addition to using the donation account for matching funds, we also use it to supplement small equipment purchases and to hold additional fundraisers. Fundraising For Others... Although there are countless worthwhile charities that need support, the Griffith Fire Department holds an annual boot drive to help support the Hoosier Burn Camp. The Hoosier Burn Camp is a non-profit organization that provides a group camp experience for boys and girls that have suffered burns and have been treated in Indiana. In many cases this week at camp may be the only time the kids are able to interact with others that have suffered from similar medical set backs. The revenue from “Secure Indiana” license plate sales funds the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation. The Foundation, one of the first of its kind in the nation, offers financial support for critical public safety needs across Indiana.
